Class Description

This workshop is a foodie’s dream!  Your day will be a mix of demonstration, hands on cooking, photography tuition and lots of time to put your skills to the test…plus a lovely lunch.  A relaxed day, take photos of the chef in action, beautiful locally sourced ingredients, the cooking process and then the finished product.

For once, you won’t be told off for using your camera at the table during this unique blend of cookery, photography tuition and styling your food!  Whether armed with SLR or a Smart Phone we will improve both your cooking repertoire & your photography skills.

We have teamed up with Jane Burkinshaw, professional food photographer, who will then show you how to take mouthwatering shots with your phone or camera.  The workshop runs before and after lunch – the food you make in the afternoon session will be great to photo!

How the day will run – photo opportunities throughout

Coffee on arrival, introductions and some photography theory

Chef demo – fresh tacos, various sauces and toppings.

Hands-on cooking, plating up and styling your finished shot.

While you play with cameras, chef makes you a tasty lunch to enjoy with a glass of wine

Chef demo – taking a simple mackeral, stuffing and cooking

Hands-on cooking, plating up and styling your finished shot.

Don’t worry if you don’t have a SLR camera, this is great on your smart phone – we will have spare SLRs to use if you want to compare before you buy a new camera.

You will learn how to:

  • Use simple composition techniques to make your image look balanced and eye-catching.
  • Blur the background and make the subject stand out.
  • Make the most of the available light.
  • Style the shot using simple props.
  • Edit with freely available apps and software.

At the end of the workshop you will take away a dish for two people and the skills to continue taking great photos at home.

Jane is a natural light photographer, specialising in food photography and running workshops.
