It’s Never too Late!
Julia Child was a renowned Chef, writer and TV star who introduced French cooking to the American public in the 1960’s. She was made famous to a whole new audience when she was portrayed by Meryl Streep in the 2009 film ‘Julie and Julia,’ about a modern-day food blogger who decides to cook all the recipes in Child’s best selling cookbook, ‘Mastering the Art of French Cooking’.
Julia Child took up cooking in her forties.
Colonel Harland Sanders was forty when he started working on a secret recipe to coat and flavour fried chicken. He sold it to customers at his petrol station and word quickly spread about how delicious and juicy it was. He launched it as a franchise and called it ‘Kentucky Fried Chicken.’
He started his business aged sixty five.
What is lovely about these true stories, is that it is never too late to learn how to cook, or to improve. There’s no doubt that both these people had dabbled with cooking before they got serious, but with a bit of time and practice, they were able to take their skills to a whole new level. It’s also true that once learnt, these are skills for life.
It is possible to learn to cook from a book, a video or a television programme, but learning to cook from an expert allows you to ask questions, be shown a technique again and get feedback on whether you are doing things the right way.
